Congratulations to College of Engineering IT Manager Steven Dean, who was one of the eight finalists to receive the University of Utah’s Staff Excellence Award for 2021. Dean was awarded for the Academics & Student Affairs District.

He was one of 23 District Staff Excellence Award winners named earlier who then moved on to compete in the campus wide awards. Dean was awarded for his tireless efforts during the pandemic to ensure that the computer systems for faculty and staff continued to work and for setting up virtual communications systems so that classes could be taught online. His invaluable work helped guarantee that the college continued to function smoothly during this unprecedented time.

The awards were established in 1992 to recognize superior service and ongoing contributions by the University’s full-time employees.

The final eight winners were selected out of the pool of 23 District Staff Excellence winners by a committee coordinated by the Chair of the University of Utah Staff Council, and approved by Jeff Herring, Chief Human Resources Officer. To be selected as an award recipient is a very high honor and is a sign that their commitment and contributions are valued by their colleagues, supervisors, and leadership of the university.
