The Utah Smart Energy Lab at the University of Utah’s College of Engineering held its first ever Utah Power and Energy Career Expo Feb. 15 at the James L. Sorenson Molecular Biotechnology Building, a successful event aimed at connecting our engineering students with recruiters from the power and energy industry.

Thirteen companies including Siemens, PacifiCorp, Hunt Electric, KW Engineering and more were present to meet with graduates and students. Speakers included Utah Energy Advisor Laura Nelson, U College of Engineering Dean Richard B. Brown, Utah Smart Energy Laboratory Director Masood Parvania and others. The event also included separate workshops for students on resume writing and job interviews.

The U-Smart: Utah Smart Energy Lab in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is designing the next generation of resilient and sustainable power and energy systems that integrates emerging energy technologies and distributed energy resources.

Sponsors for the expo included the U.S Office of Naval Research, Science and Technology; the U.S. Department of Energy; and the Utah Governor’s Office of Energy Development.
