More than 500 high school students and their parents converged on the University of Utah College of Engineering campus Nov. 17 for this year’s annual Engineering Day, a day-long event for students to learn about the fascinating concepts behind engineering. Students came from as far away as California, Washington and Missouri.

During Engineering Day, students take tours of engineering labs, participate in hands-on demonstrations and more. Some of the exciting sessions available included a tour of the chemical engineering labs, an overview of the college’s nationally-ranked Entertainment Arts & Engineering video game development program, a look at how to make interesting visual art with electronic equipment and an examination of how engineering can play a part in maintaining the health of the human ear.

Engineering Day is the largest of many events held throughout the year by the college’s outreach team to promote engineering to students from all over Utah. Other events organized by the team include Elementary Engineering Week, Science Olympiad and Meet an Inventor Night.
