This year’s College of Engineering Teaching and Staff Awards were announced Aug. 17 during the annual fall faculty meeting, again representing the hard-working and dedicated staff of the college. Congratulations to all the winners!

Following is the list of recipients along with comments from colleagues who nominated them.

COE Outstanding Teacher

Ashley Spear (assistant professor, Mechanical Engineering) — “Dr. Spear sets students up to succeed. She is dedicated to ensuring the highest probability of success for our students. In a nutshell, she is an all star-educator.”

 

COE Outstanding TA

James Tigue (teaching assistant, Mechanical Engineering) — “James excellence as a TA, his breadth of responsibilities, the depth of his contributions, and his natural talent for leadership have resulted in outstanding contributions to the university that warrant recognition.”

 

COE Outstanding Staff (tie)

Dion Duffin (administrative manager, Biomedical Engineering) — “In the short time that Dion has been in the department, she has provided an immediate positive impact. She is wise beyond her years and dedicated to workplace excellence and fairness.”
 

John Bolke (graduate coordinator, Electrical and Computer Engineering) — “John has a strong commitment to the graduate program and has a genuinely helpful attitude towards students.” “The successful year for ECE in attracting top students to our graduate program is largely attributed to John’s hard work.”

 

COE Outstanding Service

Dana Overacker (engineer-1, Institute for Clean and Secure Energy) — “Dana has demonstrated decades of unsurpassed service to the College of Engineering. The service he provided in a difficult environment was thorough, professional and invaluable!”
