Ashutosh Tiwari receives research grant from semiconductor giant Applied Materials

Ashutosh Tiwari, an assistant professor of Materials Science and Engineering, received a research grant from Applied Materials, Inc., a semiconductor giant based in Santa Clara, Calif., to develop new p-type transparent semiconductors and devices for next-generation photovoltaic (generating electricity through solar cells) applications.

Building on Tiwari’s research on flexible dye-sensitized solar cells, this multi-year project will focus on inventing new semiconductors for fabricating transparent solar cells. In an earlier project, Tiwari and his graduate student Michael Snure invented a unique technique for fabricating ‘nanoplant-like’ transparent electrodes. The support from Applied Materials will assist Tiwari’s group in furthering their work and transferring it for immediate technological application.
