Have you ever been asked: “When will I ever use this in my life?” Let us help you answer that question. Engineering is a real life application of mathematics and science, and as a career affords wonderful opportunities in a number of areas. Technology is growing at a rapid rate, and your students could be at the forefront of new developments. As your students study engineering, the application and implication of the basics learned in high school come into focus.
This Engineering Seminar will address the following:
- An overview of the importance of engineering as a field to the State, the Nation and the World at large, as well as an introduction to the different areas of engineering taught at the University of Utah.
- Examples of how the high school science and mathematics curriculum feeds into engineering principles.
- Methods of introducing engineering materials in high school curricula.
We will provide information about resources and tools available to draw connections between real-life engineering and your curriculum. We will also introduce you to some of our faculty, and the vast array of research projects in various engineering disciplines at the University of Utah. We hope that this knowledge will enable you to inspire your students to change the world for the better.
- Teachers who wish to receive credit MUST attend either College of Engineering Day on October 25, or three of the four research presentations: October 10, November 7, December 12, and January 9.
