FE Exam

FE Review Sessions

The Dean’s Office has organized a biannual lecture series (held each semester) to help students prepare for this exam. The sessions are given by faculty and instructors on Friday afternoons beginning approximately 9 weeks prior to the FE Exam date.

The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam is the first step in becoming a licensed Professional Engineer. The test is administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), www.NCEES.org.

New Format, Registration, and Deadlines

The NCEES will make the following changes to the FE Exam beginning January 1, 2014:

Old FE Format New FE Format
Paper Based Test Computer Based Test-Draper, UT location
8 hours 6 hours
General Engineering or other subjects Take Discipline Specific Test (7 different tests)
Only offered one Saturday in October (Deadline to register September 5) and April. Offered 4 time blocks each year:
Block 1 = January and February
Block 2 = April and May
Block 3 = July and August
Block 4 = October and November
Maximum of 3 attempts per calendar year
Schedule for test day only Schedule or reschedule to a different day/time only within a block if time is available.
Cost: $125.00 Cost: $225.00
