Scholarships, Fellowships & Financial Aid
All students in the College of Engineering are eligible for financial aid from several sources. There are various types of financial aid including scholarships, fellowships, grants and loans. Scholarships and Grants are the most attractive options as they do not have to be repaid. For grants see the University of Utah Financial Aid Office site. Loans on the other hand, must be repaid after graduation. While there are freshman engineering scholarships available, the majority of scholarships are reserved for matriculated engineering students (officially declared engineering majors).

Suggestions on applying for scholarships
Who to ask for Letters of Reference:
- First, if you are involved in research, request a letter from the faculty member who supervises the project
- Second, always get letters from professors, if possible
- If not, go to industrial administrators who are familiar with engineering
- Do not go to personal friends, clergy, or individuals who are not connected to engineering in any way
- Ask for letters early and follow up
When to apply
- Most departments accept applications at the beginning of spring semester
- Most deadlines are March 1
- Be sure to meet the deadline
How to fill out the application
- Make sure the application is neat. If handwritten, print, but computer generated is preferred
- Read the application carefully. Answer all questions. Include all requested documents
- Be very thoughtful when filling in the essay questions. Be concise. Watch for grammatical and spelling errors. Essays can determine whether or not the scholarship is awarded
- Be sure to include a personal statement
