2007-2008 Engineering Ambassadors: Amanda Gilliland

"The ambassador program is a great way for me to inform others about my knowledge of a career in engineering, and hopefully spark some interest."

Major: Civil Engineering

Hometown: Layton, Utah

Why I'm an Engineering Ambassador

I think it's a great program. I wish someone would of taught me more about engineering when I was younger so that I could have been better prepared for college. There are a lot of young people out there who would benefit in a science related field but just don't know about the opportunity. The ambassador program is a great way for me to inform others about my knowledge of a career in engineering, and hopefully spark some interest.

What I'm working on

Right now I am working on my undergraduate civil engineering degree. I'll be a junior next semester.

Why I like the U's College of Engineering

I like the students, the professors, the classes, the challenge, and mostly the opportunity to graduate and work as an engineer.

What I plan to do

I just want to make money doing something that I love doing. Ideally, I want to be incredibly happy working as a water resources engineer.

Do you have any hobbies outside of studying, working and attending school?

Of course! I love to be outside when it's warm, camping, biking, skateboarding, swimming, and hiking. I like to be inside when it's cold, cooking, baking, hosting movie marathons, or reading a good book with a hot cup of coffee.
