College-Wide Organizations
Society of Ethnic Student Engineers (SESE)
SESE is committed to increasing the numbers and retention of underrepresented students in engineering (ethnic minorities and women). The club sponsors socials, professional dinners, resume workshops and opportunities for community outreach.
Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
SHPE is the leading social-technical organization whose primary function is to enhance and achieve the potential of Hispanics in engineering, math and science. The U of U SHPE chapter exists to increase the numbers and retention of Hispanic engineering student at the U. The society is committed to improving the overall culture of engineering at the University of Utah through diversity. Members participate in work readiness seminars and professional dinners, outreach to Hispanic students in the local community and attend regional and national conferences for Hispanic engineers and engineering students. SHPE sponsors socials throughout the year for students of color.
National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)

Tau Beta Pi
Tau Beta Pi is the only engineering honor society representing the entire engineering profession. It is the nation's second-oldest honor society, founded at Lehigh University in 1885. There are now collegiate chapters at 232 US colleges and universities, active alumnus chapters in 16 districts across the country, and a total initiated membership of 494,848.
The University of Utah TBP Chapter is the first in-state chapter. The chapter establishment date is December 8, 1933.
Undergraduate students whose scholarship places them in the top eighth of their engineering class in their next-to-last year or in the top fifth of their engineering class in their last college year are eligible for membership consideration. These scholastically eligible students are further considered on the basis of personal integrity, breadth of interest both inside and outside engineering, adaptability, and unselfish activity.

Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit educational and service organization. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women.
