Design methodologies (architectural simulation, hardware description language design entry, silicon compilation, and verification), microarchitectures, interconnect, packaging, noise sources, circuit techniques, design for testability, design rules, VLSI technologies (silicon and GaAs), and yield. Projects in chip design.

Introduction to active devices and large-signal circuits. Large-signal circuit models for diodes and transistors were developed from a physical perspective, and circuit analysis with active devices was introduced using digital circuits. Homework assignments emphasized the complementary use of hand analysis and computer simulation.
