UNIVERSITY DISTINGUISHED TEACHING AWARD

The University of Utah has recently conferred the University Distinguished Teaching Award on Evert Lawton, professor of civil and environmental engineering. The award honors outstanding teaching that motivates student learning and career preparation.

“Dr. Lawton is one of those few extraordinary educators that draw students and professionals into learning new ideas and using math and science to better understand the world around them,” says Professor Paul Tikalsky, chair of civil and environmental engineering, who nominated Lawton for the award. “He is sought after by the professional community for his in-depth knowledge of the geotechnical engineering and the clarity of his teaching of complex topics at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels.”

A member of the U of U faculty since 1991, Lawton is widely recognized as a top engineer in his field in Utah. He is the winner of numerous other awards for his distinguished teaching, most notably the state of Utah’s Society of Professional Engineers’ Educator of the Year Award.
