Hundreds of Utah’s 5th and 6th graders are getting a hands-on look at the exciting engineering concepts that shape our daily lives.

Elementary students have been converging on the University of Utah’s A. Ray Olpin Student Union beginning Feb. 27 for this year’s Elementary Engineering Week, a five-day event of exciting activities and educational opportunities.

The week, which ends March 3, is designed to introduce students to the field of engineering and to encourage continued interest in math and science.

Students engaged in a number of activities including building catapults from wood and assembling mechanical clay fish. The event was sponsored by Phillips 66.
