A team from the University of Utah’s School of Computing took second place in the 2016 Supercomputing Student Cluster Competition in which they have to design and construct a high-performance computer network.
The team, comprised of Mark Baranowski, Braden Caywood, Hannah Eyre, Janaan Lake, Kevin Parker, and Kincaid Savoie, with advisors Hari Sundar and Mary Hall, competed against 13 other teams from around the world.
The competition was held in Salt Lake City and is a real-time, non-stop, 48-hour challenge in which teams of six undergraduates assemble a small cluster and must complete a real-world workload across a series of scientific applications, according to the competition’s website.
The University of Science and Technology of China took top honors.
