Of the eight 2016 George S. and Dolores Doré Scholars graduating from the University of Utah this year, four of them are engineering students. They include:

The scholarships, which the U’s Honors College describes as “the most significant and comprehensive undergraduate scholarships offered by the university,” are offered to 30 students each year. The scholarships are given to students in any major.
High school students who are awarded the scholarship are given eight semesters of tuition and fees, free room and board in the Donna Garff Marriott Honors Residential Community and a $400 stipend per semester for books.
Eccles Scholars begin by taking a yearlong class: Engaging A Great University. They also participate in a fall retreat with the Honors dean and enroll in “Reacting to the Past,” a unique role-playing Intellectual Traditions course.
The scholarship program continues to support the students with special programing including guaranteed admittance into an Honors Praxis Lab of their choosing, supported leadership conference sponsorship and distinguished scholarship and graduate school mentorship, according to the U’s Honors College.
This year, 28 engineering students are graduating with honors, five times more than the number last year.
